Computer hackers – not because of what they do, but for daring to imagine that they are cool or awesome for doing so. YOU ARE NERDS!!! I hope that sinks in losers.

People who think the GST was an aditional tax or who think JWH slipped it into the agenda after an election. Do your history homework.

Low editorial standards at SMH (things that annoy me in any case)

On Thursday the SMH ran an editorial by a senior lecturer in English, Nick Riemer who ended his piece with the following: ‘Only when this happens will the double brutalisation – of refugees’ lives and our own values – end.’ It is breathtaking that an English lecturer would not know the definition of the word brutalisation and merely predictable that the SMH chose not to publish my short criticism of the piece.

On Friday Mariam Veiszadeh posed some strong arguments regarding the failure of the media to use the term terrorist in reference to Anders Breivik, but ruins her piece with the following quote: ‘Perhaps he is just too Anglo-Saxon…’ Being a native Norwegian of course Breivik looks Norse. Anglo-Saxon is a term applied to tribes who invaded the British Isles. They were Germanic and Danish. I guess to Ms Veiszadeh all Caucasians look alike. This is by the way the kind of subtle racism that would be unacceptable coming from me (a white man) and rightly so.

Today Mike Carlton has written a spite filled piece (humorously directed at the ‘hate -media’) This is the same Mike Carlton who said of Stan Zemanek’s funeral ‘I’d only go to check that he was actually dead.’ I wonder if Mr Carlton can spell hypocrite?  I also wonder if someone can deliver Mr Carlton some tissues to aid in his mourning over having his arse handed to him in ratings terms by Alan Jones for several years.

Now I am not suggesting that my own contributions to public debate are without flaw, but I am not being paid to provide them.
I am also not suggesting that the standard at the News Ltd papers is any better, I just thought I could expect more from the SMH than a moronic use of a simple word, racism and hypocrisy.

The SMH is supposed to set the bar high.

Categories of persons who deserve to be slapped hard in the face

In no particular order:

People who say or write ‘methinks’ (except for my use of it just now)

People who use puns and think they are clever/amusing for doing so.

People who take stupid American patriotic chain emails and replace references to the US with references to Australia without having the intelligence to adjust the context in which those references are used.

People who use sarcasm in an otherwise intelligent debate.

South Sydney supporters.

Glen Beck.

People who fail to change into a turning lane prior to turning thus turning left from the centre lane for example.

People who stop right up your arse when you are clearly parallel parking.

David Hicks.

Shooters Party members.

ADFA hoopla

The alleged incident at ADFA recently has me thinking so here are my thoughts. 1. I don’t doubt that what is alleged to have happened may well have happened, however listening to the media reporting of this matter (especially the hyperventilating worm that is Hugh Riminton) you would be excused for thinking that these men had been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, or even charged by the police however as an investigation is ongoing perhaps a small degree of restraint is in order. 2. I am fed up with this concept that these sorts of issues exist only in Defence. If you believe that you need certifying. Defence draws from the community at large which means that if these problems exist in the ADF, they exist in the wider community as well. 3. If what is alleged did in fact occur the following is the only reasonable outcome: * ‘Kate’ should be immediately dismissed from the ADF (with full support of course) Now before the feminists have a conniption the reason is because she has now pleaded guilty to two other fairly significant disciplinary issues and this would be a third. Three strikes and you’re out of most training establishments and regardless of the fact that she may have been filmed committing one of those offences, she has still demonstrated that she regards the rules and disciplines of the ADF as not applicable to her. This won’t happen of course. * Filmer – Dismissed immediately. Officers need to be held to a higher standard and as such he would be clearly unsuitable for further service. * Watchers – at the very least should be sent back to the beginning of their training. 4. If Kate’s allegations are false she should be charged with lying to an officer, jailed for that offence and then shown the door. The media would in this case need to formally apologise for their trial by media conviction of these men.

Post Campaign Notes

So basically the election was nearly a draw. The most likely outcome will be Coalition 73 Labor 72 Ex Nationals Independants 3 Greens 1 Ex Liberal Ex Greens Independant 1. Taking into account that Bob Brown has already pledged his support to the ALP’s cause (more on this later) and given that Andrew Wilkie has done everything up to and including disseminating information he obtained by virtue of his security clearance as an Int analyst, to destroy the Liberal Party, that makes the ALP’s cumulative 74 seats.

The other three solo artists are ex Nationals in rural areas. A galaxy poll in their electorates revealed the bloody obvious – that their constituents prefer a conservative government by a big margin. To me it may be political suicide for these members to support the ALP’s cause.

Tony Windsor I don’t know too much about. Bob Katter is as mad as a hatter, but a better local MP you’ll never find. He is truly dedicated to his electorate. Rob Oakeshot is sounding more and more like a complete fuckbag. First he started going on about power sharing (as though we were living in Zimbabwe) then he continued by prattling on about reforming the parliament etc. Today he said that the two major parties should remember that this process is not about them. Umm yes it is you clown, it’s abot which one of THEM will form government so just make up your mind.

Bob Brown has shown casual disregard to the western democratic tradition. When asked who will have the best chance of forming a stable government he said that only the ALP could deliver a stable government and should be supported because they are already there. That’s right, forget about who won more seats or policy or anything of importance, for Bob it comes down to letting the incumbent continue to rule regardless of what happens. Stop thieving oxygen Bob.

In closing my opinion of the election is as follows:

* Gillard / Bitar / Hawker et al ran the worst campaign I have ever witnessed.

* Abbott who I thought unelectable when he took leadership of his party has come so close to winning government that even if the independants don’t support him, he will be seen by the Liberal Party at least as somewhat of a hero.

* If the coalition wins more seats than the ALP they should be supported. If the two parties are even then I guess adding the greens to their number, the ALP should be supported.

* Bob Brown really hates fishermen, businesses and Catholics.

* The three funniest sights on election night were in no particulare order; Maxines tanty, Arbib prying his head from his arse live to air and Barnaby Joyce blowing up at Tony Windsor with Windsor shit stirring Joyce.

* Mum and obviously others elected the youngest ever MP in Wyatt Roy the Member for Longman.
