So basically the election was nearly a draw. The most likely outcome will be Coalition 73 Labor 72 Ex Nationals Independants 3 Greens 1 Ex Liberal Ex Greens Independant 1. Taking into account that Bob Brown has already pledged his support to the ALP’s cause (more on this later) and given that Andrew Wilkie has done everything up to and including disseminating information he obtained by virtue of his security clearance as an Int analyst, to destroy the Liberal Party, that makes the ALP’s cumulative 74 seats.
The other three solo artists are ex Nationals in rural areas. A galaxy poll in their electorates revealed the bloody obvious – that their constituents prefer a conservative government by a big margin. To me it may be political suicide for these members to support the ALP’s cause.
Tony Windsor I don’t know too much about. Bob Katter is as mad as a hatter, but a better local MP you’ll never find. He is truly dedicated to his electorate. Rob Oakeshot is sounding more and more like a complete fuckbag. First he started going on about power sharing (as though we were living in Zimbabwe) then he continued by prattling on about reforming the parliament etc. Today he said that the two major parties should remember that this process is not about them. Umm yes it is you clown, it’s abot which one of THEM will form government so just make up your mind.
Bob Brown has shown casual disregard to the western democratic tradition. When asked who will have the best chance of forming a stable government he said that only the ALP could deliver a stable government and should be supported because they are already there. That’s right, forget about who won more seats or policy or anything of importance, for Bob it comes down to letting the incumbent continue to rule regardless of what happens. Stop thieving oxygen Bob.
In closing my opinion of the election is as follows:
* Gillard / Bitar / Hawker et al ran the worst campaign I have ever witnessed.
* Abbott who I thought unelectable when he took leadership of his party has come so close to winning government that even if the independants don’t support him, he will be seen by the Liberal Party at least as somewhat of a hero.
* If the coalition wins more seats than the ALP they should be supported. If the two parties are even then I guess adding the greens to their number, the ALP should be supported.
* Bob Brown really hates fishermen, businesses and Catholics.
* The three funniest sights on election night were in no particulare order; Maxines tanty, Arbib prying his head from his arse live to air and Barnaby Joyce blowing up at Tony Windsor with Windsor shit stirring Joyce.
* Mum and obviously others elected the youngest ever MP in Wyatt Roy the Member for Longman.
